If It’s From God…
Let’s be honest—sometimes we really want something to be from God. We’ll pray, “Lord, if this is You, make it clear,” but deep down we’ve already made up our minds. We’ve convinced ourselves that this opportunity, this relationship, this “open door” is divine because it looks good, feels right, or came at the perfect time.
But here’s the thing: not everything that glitters is glory.
Sometimes the enemy dresses up distractions to look like destiny. And because we’re tired, desperate, or impatient, we settle for almost right instead of waiting for God’s best.
It’ll Align With His Word
Let’s start here. God will never contradict His own Word to bless you. Never.
If it requires compromising your values, disobeying His commandments, or silencing that inner conviction of the Holy Spirit, it’s not from Him.
You don’t have to twist scripture to make it fit your situation. You don’t have to justify disobedience as “grace.” God’s blessings don’t come at the expense of your integrity.
Sometimes that job offer looks like a breakthrough, but it’ll have you neglecting your peace, your family, and your calling. Sometimes that relationship feels heaven-sent, but it’s slowly pulling you out of alignment.
If it’s from God, it will not cause you to step outside of His will to keep it.
It Brings Peace, Not Chaos
God’s blessings come with peace. Not always comfort, but peace.
Philippians 4:7 reminds us that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
That means even when it doesn’t make sense, there’s still a divine calm that keeps your spirit anchored.
If you’re constantly second-guessing, anxious, and losing sleep trying to figure out how to make it work, it might not be a blessing—it might be bondage dressed up in good timing.
When it’s from God, you won’t have to chase it. You’ll feel a deep knowing—a settled assurance that even in uncertainty, you’re right where you’re supposed to be.
It Strengthens You, Not Drains You
God’s assignments will challenge you, but they won’t deplete you. There’s a difference between being stretched and being drained. One produces growth, the other produces burnout.
When something is from God, it refines you. You may be tired, but you’re still fueled by purpose. There’s still oil flowing. You may cry through it, but you don’t lose yourself in it.
If you find yourself constantly pouring and never being poured into, running on empty, or losing your sense of joy—step back and reassess. God’s blessings add, they don’t subtract.
It Requires Faith, But Comes With Provision
Here’s the balance: just because something is from God doesn’t mean it’ll be easy. Sometimes it’ll look impossible—on purpose. Because God wants you to depend on Him, not your own understanding.
When it’s from Him, the provision will match the vision.
You may not see it all at once, but doors will open, resources will align, and the right people will appear.
That’s what it looks like when heaven backs a plan.
Where He guides, He provides. Always.
It Bears Good Fruit
Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). And that’s not just about people—it’s about everything connected to your life.
Does it produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control? (Galatians 5:22-23) Or does it create confusion, frustration, doubt, and distance from God?
If the fruit is toxic, the root wasn’t holy.
It’s that simple.
When It’s Not From God
Here’s where many of us get stuck: we hold on because we’ve invested. We’ve prayed, cried, sacrificed, and we think, “Surely, God won’t waste this.” But sometimes the very thing you’re praying for God to fix is what He’s trying to free you from.
If you have to manipulate, hide, or compromise to keep it, it’s not from Him. If it pulls you away from your peace, purpose, and prayer life, it’s not from Him. If it’s always taking more than it gives, it’s not from Him.
Letting go doesn’t mean you failed. It means you trusted Him enough to release what He didn’t send.
The Bottom Line
If it’s from God, you won’t have to force it. You won’t have to beg for it to stay. You won’t have to lose yourself trying to prove you deserve it.
It will align with His Word, bring peace to your spirit, strengthen your faith, and bear fruit that reflects His character. It will pull you closer to Him, not farther away.
So, before you say yes to that opportunity, that person, that plan—pause.
Ask yourself:
Does this align with God’s Word?
Does this bring me peace?
Does this draw me closer to Christ?
Does it bear good fruit?
If the answer is yes, walk boldly. If not, don’t be afraid to step away. God only removes what was never meant to remain.
And trust me, when He replaces it, you’ll understand why He said no.
Because when it’s from God…
You won’t have to question it. You’ll know.
Deep Dive: Reflection & Journaling Prompts
Take a quiet moment with your journal and the Holy Spirit. Reflect deeply on these:
What situations or relationships am I currently trying to force instead of surrendering to God?
How do I typically discern God’s voice versus my own desires?
Have I ever mistaken comfort or familiarity for divine confirmation?
What fruit has this season of my life been producing — peace or confusion?
What does trusting God’s “no” look like for me right now?
In what ways might God be calling me to release what’s good for what’s Godly?
How can I better align my decisions with His Word instead of my emotions?
