Sis, We Are Not in Competition
Somewhere along the way, many of us were fed a subtle but damaging lie: that there’s only space for one of us to succeed, and if she’s winning, I must be losing. This mindset doesn’t come from God—it comes from a culture of comparison that thrives on division, not unity.
In the Kingdom of God, scarcity does not exist. God’s purpose is not a limited resource to be fought over—it is an infinite assignment designed uniquely for each of His children. Romans 12:4–5 reminds us:
“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
That means your gifts, calling, and journey were not meant to mirror mine. We are meant to complement, not compete. When one of us moves forward in purpose, it is not a loss for the rest of us—it is a win for the Body of Christ as a whole.
The Subtle Trap of Comparison
The enemy works hard to keep us distracted by comparison. Hebrews 12:1 calls us to “run with endurance the race that is set before us.” Notice, it says the race set before us—not the race someone else is running. When we shift our focus to another woman’s journey, we risk slowing down in ours.
I’ll be honest—this is something I’ve struggled with deeply. There have been moments when I’ve celebrated someone publicly, but privately wrestled with feelings of being left behind. It’s humbling to admit, but comparison doesn’t just steal joy—it also blinds us to the blessings God has already placed in our lives.
God’s Perspective on Success
God is not limited. If He can part the Red Sea, multiply loaves and fish, and raise the dead, He can certainly bless you without taking anything away from someone else. His plans are individually tailored, yet collectively connected for the good of the Kingdom (1 Corinthians 12:12–27).
When we celebrate each other’s wins without jealousy, we create an atmosphere where God’s love is evident. Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” We are called to build, not break; to lift, not compete.
Choosing Celebration Over Competition
We can shift this culture. It starts with:
Praying for the success of other women, even when it challenges our own insecurities.
Speaking life over someone’s calling without comparing it to our own.
Remembering that God’s timing is perfect—if it hasn’t happened for you yet, it’s not because He forgot; it’s because He’s still preparing.
Let’s be the generation of women who believe that her light doesn’t dim mine—it just makes the room brighter. Let’s walk in the freedom of knowing we’re not fighting for a single seat at the table; in Christ, the table is big enough for all of us.
